Although digital transformation has been widely discussed and encouraged, there still seems to be a lot of misinformation on the subject, which affects the way organisations approach the process. Nadia Byer-Thomas, of 800 TECH, seeks to dispel key myths around digital transformation. In this episode, seven myths are tackled.

The term ‘digital transformation’ has become a term that some of us have begun to hate. It is so popular, and arguably has been overused, but to some degree, it is still greatly misunderstood. Over the course of several episodes here on this Podcast, we have discussed the topic from different angles. However, although digital transformation is seen as critical for the long-term survival of organisations, there is still a lot of misinformation about what digital transformation is, what it entails, etc.

In this episode, we hope to address a few of those myths, and hopefully help you to become better informed about digital transformation, and its potential relevance and importance to organisations, almost regardless of their size.

Insights onto our conversation

As widely discussed as digital transformation has been, it still seems to be mired in myths and misinformation. During the course of our conversation, Nadia and I discussed seven myths, and she was able to share real-world examples based on projects in which she has been involved to highlight critical points, such as to distinguish between digitalisation and digital transformation.

As expected, our conversation was guided by the myths that we wanted to address, which are listed below, along with other key questions that were raised during our conversation.

  1. Do tell us a bit about yourself, and how you became so evangelical about digital transformation.
  2. What might be a working definition you have for digital transformation?
  3. Myth #1:  Digital transformation is a technology problem that improves systems.
  4. Myth #2:  Digital transformation is for enterprise / large companies only.
  5. Myth #3:  Digital transformation is only about the customer experience.
  6. Myth #4:  Digitizing operations leads to digital transformation.
  7. Myth #5:  Improving digital marketing leads to digital transformation.
  8. Myth #6:  All digital transformation strategies are good strategies.
  9. Myth #7:  Job loss and low staff morale are almost inevitable when digital transformation is implemented
  10. If there is anything you would want listeners to take away from the discussion, what might that be?

We would love to hear from you!
